This beautiful estate was the lifelong home of James Madison, father of the Constitution, and his wife Dolly. The original section of Montpelier's beautiful mansion was built when James was a child. The property was owned from 1901-1983 by the DuPont family, who greatly enlarged the house, now undergoing restoration. The 2,700-acre site offers the famous Montpelier Hunt Races, tours of the mansion, restored 19th-century gardens, and is the focal point of many county events.
